South Florida Outreach Coordinator

The Florida Wildflower Foundation (FWF) is looking for an energetic, self-motivated South Florida Outreach Coordinator to help expand our reach and promote native wildflower conservation. As part of our small, professional, team-oriented organization, you’ll take on a broad range of duties — from community outreach and education to partnership building and advocacy. This part-time contracted role will focus on raising awareness about the importance of Florida’s native wildflowers and their ecological role in a region that includes Manatee, Hardee, Highlands, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties, extending south through all counties to Monroe and Collier. Reporting to FWF’s Executive Director, the Coordinator will promote conservation, community engagement and native wildflower advocacy by collaborating with staff, volunteers and local partners. Key responsibilities include expanding the Foundation’s presence, supporting outreach and educational initiatives, and fostering partnerships to promote native plant landscaping and conservation.

STATUS: Independent contractor
LOCATION: Remote (within South Florida)

  • Community outreach:
    • Plan, organize and/or participate in outreach events, workshops and field trips that promote native plant awareness.
    • Deliver educational presentations and distribute resources to highlight the benefits of native wildflowers.
    • Work with Communications Coordinator to create and manage region-specific content for social media, newsletters and outreach materials, including overseeing the South Florida Wildflowers Facebook group.
    • Serve as a local point of contact for community and media inquiries.
    • Engage local communities, schools, garden clubs and organizations in native plant conservation.
    • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for events and field trips, collaborating with local partners to plan and execute effective outreach and conservation activities.
  • Partnership development:
    • Support efforts to establish and strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders, including government agencies, botanical gardens and conservation groups.
    • Identify opportunities for collaborative projects that enhance native plant conservation.
  • Roadside program:
    • Work with Roadsides Coordinator to advocate for FWF’s roadside wildflower program to diverse stakeholders including but not limited to government representatives, public works departments and community organizations.
    • Engage and coordinate volunteers to help identify and monitor wildflower sites along roadsides.
  • Experience in community outreach or environmental education.
  • Knowledge of Florida native plants and ecosystems, with an emphasis on South Florida.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Zoom and social media platforms.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and comprehensive vehicle insurance.
  • Willingness to travel within South Florida and work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Reside within South Florida.
  • Be capable of driving for extended periods and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • A degree (or 3-5 years of experience) in biology, botany, wildlife ecology, environmental studies or related field is preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole).
  • Experience working with local governments, non-profits or educational institutions.
  • Experience in volunteer management.
