Green Mountain Scenic Overlook & Trailhead, Lake County

This field trip is sold out. Please contact Rose at RKinane@FlaWildflowers.org to be added to the waiting list.
Join us for a guided tour of the Lake Apopka North Shore. Our trip will begin at the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook and Trailhead, where we’ll visit the demonstration garden funded by the Florida Wildflower Foundation’s Viva Florida Landscape Demonstration Garden grant. From there, we’ll hike down to the Loop Trail, which will take us to an Eco-buggy.
The Eco-buggy will take participants about 1.5 miles into the Lake Apopka North Shore, a property managed by the St Johns River Water Management District. Along the way, we’ll learn about the ongoing Lake Apopka restoration project, with a special focus on a sandhill restoration site at the northernmost end of the Lake Wales Ridge. This project, which began in 2015, continues to restore critical habitat. Land managers will share insights into the restoration process and highlight some of the rare plants found on the site.
Please note: The hike to and from Green Mountain is slightly steep, and the restoration area is sandy. However, the rest of the route is mostly level and well compacted.
Registration is free for Florida Wildflower Foundation members and $10 for nonmembers.
