Flowers, butterflies, bees … oh my! Celebrate spring at the MainStreet Deland Association’s 13th annual Florida Wildflower & Garden Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Gardening enthusiasts will find plenty of inspiration, with demonstrations and presentations by wildflower and gardening experts throughout the day.
An array of nature- and garden-related items will be available from vendors lining West Indiana Avenue in downtown DeLand, including potted wildflowers and seeds, plants and planters, arts and crafts, botanical products, local honey, decorative home and garden items and more! Bring the kids – meeting animal friends from the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens and Lyonia Environmental Center is just one of the children’s activities in store.
Free talks and presentations available
Beginning at 9 a.m., free presentations will be offered on the hour at the Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Ave. Tom MacCubbin, radio host of “Better Lawns and Gardens,” will talk at noon about the finer points of Central Florida gardening. Other topics include 20 easy wildflower species to add to landscapes, toxic plants to avoid, the control of invasive air potato vine, and how to start a butterfly garden.
Chess Park will serve as another hub of activity, with demonstrations on pruning plants, making compost, and creating a wildflower “pollinator pot.”
A free shuttle will run throughout the day from the Athens Theatre to transport guests between the Wildflower & Garden Festival and the DeLand Outdoor Art Festival.
Festival sponsors and partners include the MainStreet DeLand Association, City of DeLand, University of Florida/IFAS, Florida Wildflower Foundation, State Wildflower license plate, DeLand Outdoor Art Festival, Florida Wildflowers Seed & Plant Growers Association, Quality Green Specialists and Copy Cat Print Media & Design.
